In the first book of the Wolves of the Rising Sun series, Skye has left her abusive, manipulative boyfriend and she’s headed to the bayou to take pictures, to relax and to figure out her next move. Always attracted to the bartender at the local dive bar, she and Jace could never be together since they were both seeing other people. Now they’re both single and they take their flirty friendship to the next level. Until Jace’s brother, Aiden, accuses her of being a traitor and wanting to kill them.The romance and action happened very quickly in this novella, but the love felt believable. The action with the bad guy at the end felt forced to me and I think Skye accepted the fact that Jace was a werewolf a little too easily.
I prefer books written in 3rd person but this 1st person narrative caught my eye so I thought I’d give it a chance. The only typo I found was that the author kept switching back and forth from how long Jace and Skye knew each other before the start of this story. In one chapter, they’d known each other for two years and, in the next chapter, it’s been three years, then it jumps back to two years. Other than that, the book is very well-written.

Fast paced, enjoyable short paranormal read.
Jace and Skye have always felt something for each other but something always stood in the way of them getting together and they never have indicated to each other they way they feel. After Skye breaks it off with her boyfriend she turns up at Jace's bar on her way to take photographs. From there things happen fast. A surprise tattoo throws a spanner into the works for a short while but in the end they get their hea.
Felt like I missed the backstory. I even went back and checked if it was book one in the series.
The story arc was rushed and pacing in general needs extra work.
Read book one within 40 minutes. Kenzie Cox is a new author to me. I don't feel compelled to buy the next book in series.
I was looking for a short read for a trip and this fit the bill nice. Some parts of the story had me thinking that this was not the first book in a series. By the author rehashing certain events I thought maybe it was from a previous book. But otherwise nice book.
I almost feel bad about leaving a review, because I read this book forewarned by the author that it may not be what her usual fans were looking for. That said, if you are looking for urban fantasy or a complex story to dive into for a few days this is not it. However, if you are looking for a fun short fantasy romance to fill a boring rainy night this is fine.
This is the story of Jace (a wolf shifter) and Skye. It's not very long and a lot of the action takes place before the story begins and is simply recounted by the characters. Although this is the first in the series, I kept checking to see if I had missed something. The resolution is really hasty, as if the author was just trying to get it over with.
Jace Riveaux, wolf shifter and owner/operator of a local Bayou Bar and Grill has just gotten out a long term relationship. If the truth is known he's had the hots for one beautiful photographer for years one Skye Michaels. The problem is she too has been in a long term relationship with some rich dude.
Skye is back in the Bayou and she is now free, not that Jace knows it. She is human but she has a thing for the wolves of the Bayou area. She there asking them to take her out to photograph the wild life. Jace's brother gets him to take her out. Jace and Skye get caught in a bad storm and mother fate steps in to put these star crossed mates into a mating frenzy. When Skye's ex shows up to harass the brother's they find out that Skye is as it were in bed with the enemy who is trying to destroy the pack and claim their lands. It get really messy.
Read and see how Ms Cox gets things settled. I think you will like this one.
Same old same old, no twill in storyline of wolf meets girl and mates. Low key storytelling by author and fast read. Not even humorous which could of creative more for the readers to hold onto the end of the novel. I've even purchased the audible book and this did not save or enhance the novel. Sorry, I read a large amount of wereshifters. If this novel had been my first read Into the world of shifters. I would have rated maybe a star more.
